Brazilian Federal Police seek Interpol alert for missing 6-year-old

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) is initiating a formal request to include 6-year-old Édson Davi Silva Almeida in Interpol’s Yellow Notice system. The child has been missing since January 4, 2024, after disappearing from Barra da Tijuca beach in Rio de Janeiro.

The move follows a request from the child's mother, Marize Araújo, who suspected her son might be among 163 children rescued during a recent anti-human trafficking operation in Florida, United States. However, American authorities have clarified that no Brazilian children were identified among those located during the operation.

If approved by Interpol, the Yellow Notice will allow the child's information to be shared across the organization's 196 member countries to assist in international search efforts. The Federal Police's International Police Cooperation Center (NCI/PF/RJ) is currently processing the necessary documentation.
