Brazilian female deputies seek supra-partisan cooperation
Female deputies in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies have expressed their intention to maintain a supra-partisan approach to women's issues, despite increasing ideological divisions in the country. Current coordinator Jack Rocha (PT-ES) and former coordinator Soraya Santos (PL-RJ) emphasized the need for greater female representation in Parliament. While there is currently a 30% quota for female candidates, there is no such reservation for seats. Proposals discussed include setting a 30% or even 50% seat reservation to ensure stability and reduce attacks against female candidates.
Key legislative priorities mentioned include increasing budget allocations for combating violence against women, such as feminicide, and supporting female entrepreneurship.
In a separate perspective, re-elected Deputy Coronel Fernanda criticized federal government projects, claiming they harm women and families. She expressed hope that the new composition of the Chamber will resist such measures and instead focus on projects that improve legal and administrative security.
