Brazilian feminist novels spotlighted at FLIP and in new releases

Writer Letícia Ávila's debut novel *Palco dos que sofrem* was featured at the International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP) with a public signing on 25 July at Casa Pagã in the historic centre of Paraty. The work examines patriarchal oppression and proposes a collective‑healing “ustopia” where women reshape social structures, drawing on the concept of “dororidade” that links shared pain to empowerment.

In a separate literary event, Argentine‑Brazilian author Paloma Vidal released her novel *O Lado de Lá* (originally *La Banda Oriental*) in Brazil. The book uses theatrical language to critique social inequality, gender‑based violence and class exclusion, following a young girl who navigates the stark contrast between wealthy Brazilian families in Uruguay and the violence that surrounds her. Vidal discussed the novel in an interview, highlighting its relevance to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay and underscoring literature’s role as social criticism.
