Brazilian festivals spotlight Amazonian indie artist and Rio Grande do Norte pop‑rock scene

At the Festival Casarão 2026 in Manaus, Amazonian singer‑songwriter Gabi Farias talked with guitarist Bruno Matos and drummer Abner Pires about her artistic evolution since 2019, her EP "Vazante", 2022 album "Enchente", and upcoming single "Sossega". She described how moving to São Paulo – where she now lives – created both new collaborations and challenges for musicians from Brazil's North region, highlighting cultural and geographic barriers that affect their visibility.

Meanwhile, the Festival MPB 84 in Natal announced the fifth edition of its band contest, now focused on pop‑rock. Curator Marcelo Veni explained that 12 bands will compete, with the final set for 24 September at Solar Bela Vista. The winning act will return to the main festival stage on 6 November, joining national performers. The competition aims to boost independent, author‑driven music in Rio Grande do Norte and provide broader exposure for emerging pop‑rock groups.
