Dog rescued alive after 20‑hour entombment in wall collapse at Concórdia, Brazil

On the night of July 29, a wall on Rua Espanha in the Nações neighborhood of Concórdia, Santa Catarina, collapsed, burying a family dog beneath the debris. Residents heard the animal’s barking the next day and alerted emergency services. Volunteer firefighters and the municipal Civil Defense team returned to the site, carefully removing earth and masonry until they located the dog, identified as Duque. After more than 20 hours trapped, Duque was extracted alive and handed to his owner. He was taken to a veterinary facility for observation and was reported to be recovering well.

The rescue highlights the coordinated response of local rescue agencies and the importance of promptly reporting animal emergencies. Authorities emphasized that abandoning or mistreating companion animals is a punishable offense.
