Brazilian firms accelerate zero‑trust cybersecurity amid rising AI‑related breach costs

Companies in Brazil are increasingly adopting zero‑trust architectures, requiring continuous verification of user identity, device, location and behavior for every access. The shift follows a more complex threat landscape, with data leaks, unauthorized AI tool use and credential attacks driving higher exposure. According to IBM Security’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2025, the global average cost of a breach is US$4.44 million, and organizations with significant hidden AI use saw breach costs rise by about US$670 thousand.

IBM Latin America’s cyber‑security services leader Nicolas Mucci and Microsoft Brazil’s security head André Toledo note that breaches now affect operations, reputation and revenue, with ransomware and extortion remaining dominant motives. Gartner’s Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) framework and stronger digital identity controls such as MFA and privileged‑access management are highlighted as key strategies to manage risk. The overall trend moves cybersecurity from a purely technical function to a business‑risk discipline.
