Brazilian Firms' AI Hiring Practices Exclude Qualified Candidates
Companies in Brazil are increasingly using artificial‑intelligence tools to screen résumés, but overly rigid criteria and automated filters are eliminating qualified professionals early in the process. Flávia Mentone, CEO of recruitment firm Reponto, explains that many job postings list an extensive set of requirements that exceed what the role actually demands, making the selection process “more restrictive than necessary” and often sidelining candidates who could perform well.
These barriers not only limit talent pools but also raise costs for employers through prolonged hiring cycles, while groups such as people with disabilities face heightened exclusion. Mentone urges firms to revise job requirements, simplify unnecessary steps, use data to spot where specific groups are being filtered out, and combine AI tools with human judgment to improve accessibility and inclusion in hiring.
