Brazilian firms' ethical culture linked to employee retention, Deloitte study finds

A Deloitte survey of executives from over 500 organizations, including 55 Brazilian companies, found that while 58% of Brazilian respondents consider their risk controls aligned with business strategy and 62% see strong leadership commitment, only 39% rate the maturity of risk management as advanced. The research highlights that formal compliance mechanisms—policies, trainings, and codes of conduct—do not automatically ensure ethical behavior in daily decisions.

Viviane Elias Moreira, a C‑level executive and corporate‑governance specialist, warns that a gap between written norms and actual conduct can lead to the gradual normalization of minor deviations, eventually eroding employee trust and increasing turnover. The study suggests that ethical culture, beyond mere compliance, is crucial for retaining talent.
