Brazilian industry says 46% of firms could cut investments if 6‑hour work shift ends

The Confederação Nacional da Indústria (CNI) reports that 46% of Brazilian industrial companies would scale back or abandon investment and expansion projects if the proposed amendment to end the 6x1 work schedule is approved. The survey indicates that 97% of industries would feel the impact, highlighting the breadth of the potential shock.

CNI’s economic analysis manager Marcelo Azevedo points to rising operational costs—energy, oil derivatives, packaging, logistics, taxes, interest rates and labor wages—as key pressures on profitability and cash flow. The legislative proposal, which has stalled in the Senate for a month, is seen as a decisive factor that could reshape industrial cost structures and investment decisions across Brazil.
