Brazilian firms urged to rethink talent promotion as FGV launches free professional courses

The Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) is offering ten free short‑duration online courses aimed at developing market‑relevant skills. Topics include leadership in dynamic workplaces, people management during crises, employability, mental health at work, organizational culture, storytelling, Scrum methodology and neurobusiness. Courses do not provide formal certificates, but participants can receive a declaration of participation by passing a final test with a score of 7 or higher.

Columnist Claudio Garcia argues that many Brazilian companies promote the wrong talent, noting that overconfidence and self‑promotion predict who gets promoted, not who delivers results. He calls for HR to shift from a cost‑center role to a predictive, analytics‑driven strategy. Studies cited show executives stay on average 2.5 years in a role, highlighting the need for better talent assessment and development practices.
