Brazilian food consumption rises in Northeast region

Food consumption in Brazil's Northeast region grew by 6.5% between October 5 and 11, 2026, compared to the same period in the previous year. A subsequent week saw a 4.5% increase, according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (ABRAS).

ABRAS president João Galassi noted that the increase in food volume was observed across all retail formats, including wholesale, traditional supermarkets, and neighborhood stores. The rise in demand was particularly noted for essential goods such as rice, oil, pasta, and coffee. The association linked this shift in consumer behavior to the prohibition of betting platforms (bets) in Brazil.

In Aracaju, the 10th edition of the Supervendas trade fair is expected to generate between R$ 130 million and R$ 140 million in business, an increase over the previous year's results. The event aims to strengthen connections between suppliers, distributors, and retailers.
