Brazilian football faces referee controversy and scheduling complaints
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has appointed referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima to officiate the upcoming Série B match between Goiás and CRB. This decision has drawn attention due to Lima’s recent history; less than five months ago, he was involved in a controversial match between Palmeiras and Chapecoense. Following that game, the CBF identified procedural errors regarding a disallowed goal and a penalty decision, leading to a temporary suspension of both the referee and the VAR team involved.
Separately, Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has criticized the current football calendar and pitch conditions following a 0-0 draw against Santos. Ferreira expressed frustration regarding the lack of rest for players and the scheduling of matches immediately following FIFA international breaks. Despite these challenges, Ferreira emphasized that Palmeiras remains competitive in multiple tournaments, including the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil, and Libertadores.
