Brazilian Football Federation bans Série A matches in stadiums lacking semi‑automatic offside technology

The Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) has ruled that all Brazilian Série A fixtures must be played in venues equipped with a semi‑automatic offside system. Clubs that cannot host a match in their own ground will have to relocate to a stadium that already has the technology, and the CBF will cover installation costs.

Nineteen stadiums are slated to receive the system, with Morumbi and Mineirão being the latest additions. The technology, supplied by Genius Sports, uses 27 high‑resolution cameras per arena to create a virtual replica of the field for referees. While the rollout is in its final phase, no official start date has been announced and initial testing will occur in youth competitions. Clubs such as Palmeiras and São Paulo have already financed equipment for their alternative venues to comply with the new rule.
