STJD sanctions Vitória players following Ba-Vi derby confrontation
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has issued rulings regarding a confrontation during the Ba-Vi derby between Bahia and Vitória. Following an incident where Bahia player Jean Lucas celebrated a goal by removing his shirt toward the opposing fans, Vitória players Marinho and Cacá were sanctioned.
Cacá received a two-match suspension for attempting to tear Lucas’s jersey. Marinho received a one-match suspension that was converted into a warning. Conversely, Jean Lucas was acquitted of charges related to provocative behavior. Additionally, Bahia was fined R$ 2,000 for a delay in returning to the pitch during the match.
During the proceedings, defense lawyers noted that a parody social media link was mistakenly included in the prosecution's evidence. Separately, Vitória is facing internal challenges, including reported delays in image rights payments, while the club struggles in the Campeonato Brasileiro, currently sitting five points above the relegation zone.
