Brazilian football: Victor Gabriel cleared for Gre-Nal as Grêmio assistant is arrested

The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) has ruled to convert the remaining suspension of Internacional defender Victor Gabriel into a fine of R$ 100,000. The decision, reached unanimously, allows the player to be available for the upcoming Gre-Nal derby against Grêmio. Gabriel had already served 73 days of his original suspension, which was tied to the recovery timeline of Cruzeiro player Gabriel Pec.

Separately, Grêmio technical assistant Alexandre Mendes was arrested upon arriving in Porto Alegre from Belém. The arrest follows allegations that Mendes violated a protective order regarding his ex-partner. Mendes has been facing legal proceedings for psychological violence since early 2025. Following a custody hearing, a judge maintained his preventive detention, and he has been transferred to a penitentiary. Grêmio stated it is monitoring the situation and awaiting further details.
