Brazilian futsal star Rodrigo Capita retires after 20‑year career
Rodrigo Capita, born Rodrigo Hardy Araújo in Campinas, announced his retirement from professional futsal on Friday, 24 May 2024 at the age of 42. His final appearance was for Magnus in a 4‑0 victory over Tubarão at Arena Sorocaba during the penultimate round of the LNF Cresol first phase. He scored a goal within five seconds of entering the match, ending a 20‑year career with a total of 982 goals. Capita will move into a commentator role with GE TV.
The forward leaves the sport as one of its most decorated players, having amassed 48 major titles – including a Futsal World Cup, a Copa América, three Liga Nacional championships, three Libertadores and four Club World Cups. He recorded 103 goals in 160 matches for the Brazilian national futsal team and was the all‑time leading scorer for Magnus with 524 club goals.
A ceremony with videos, family, and fellow legend Falcão marked his departure. Magnus retired his shirt number 14, joining the club’s tradition of retiring iconic numbers. Capita expressed gratitude to fans and highlighted the emotional significance of his final goal before transitioning to his new media career.
