Brazilian Gastronomic Festivals Begin Dish Evaluation Phases

The municipality of Araguaína launched the first tasting round of its inaugural Gastronomic Festival on July 21, with judges assessing dishes across five categories—including main courses, barbecue, street food, regional desserts, and vegetarian options—based on flavor, originality, presentation and commercial viability. The event aims to spotlight local chefs, entrepreneurs and regional cuisine while preparing for the main competition scheduled for late September.

In the neighboring state of Tocantins, the 20th edition of the Taquaruçu Gastronomic Festival started its dish‑evaluation stage on July 30 at the Arnaud Rodrigues Convention Center in Palmas. Fifty‑five slots are open, and contestants will be judged on taste, texture, aroma, temperature, presentation, creativity and originality. Successful participants will proceed to mandatory training on food hygiene and entrepreneurship before the festival, slated for early September, which will also feature cultural performances and a prize pool of R$156,000.
