Brazilian governors delay legislative leadership discussions

Governors in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Goiás have indicated they will not intervene in the upcoming elections for their respective state legislative assemblies.

In Mato Grosso, Governor Otaviano Pivetta stated he is not involved in the negotiations for the new Board of Directors of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) for the 2027-2028 biennium. While noting that his party, Republicanos, may have influence due to its number of state deputies, Pivetta emphasized that the selection process belongs to the parliamentarians. He also expressed support for Dilmar Dal Bosco to remain as the government leader in the Assembly.

Similarly, in Goiás, re-elected Governor Daniel Vilela announced that discussions regarding the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of Goiás (Alego) and reforms to the state secretariat will be postponed until 2027. Vilela noted that the Alego presidency election is scheduled for February 1, 2027, and argued against premature political maneuvering.
