Brazilian health authorities debunk fake news regarding Pneumo 23 vaccine
Health authorities in Brazil are issuing alerts regarding false information circulating on social media concerning the Pneumo 23 vaccine. Misleading messages claim the vaccine has been temporarily released to all individuals over the age of 58.
In Teresina, the Municipal Health Foundation (FMS) clarified that the vaccine is specifically indicated for bedridden or institutionalized elderly individuals over 60 with incomplete vaccination schedules, as well as indigenous peoples from age 5 without a vaccination history. The FMS noted that the Ministry of Health began transitioning to the Pneumo 20 vaccine in 2026, which will eventually replace Pneumo 10, 13, and 23.
Similarly, the Municipal Health Secretariat in Poços de Caldas warned that the claims regarding the age threshold are untrue. Both authorities urge the public to rely exclusively on official government channels and health units for vaccination information to prevent the spread of misinformation.
