Brazilian health centers launch support initiatives for neurodivergent families
Psychosocial care centers in Brazil are implementing initiatives to support families of neurodivergent children, with a specific focus on the mental health of mothers and caregivers.
In Belford Roxo, the Rehabilitation Center for Neuroatypical Children (CERCNA) held a multidisciplinary psychology event titled “Connections that Transform.” The program addressed the intersection of psychology and public health for children up to 17 years old diagnosed with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Down Syndrome. The event featured lectures and demonstrations of services including neuropsychology, music therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy.
Similarly, the Psychosocial Attention Center for Children and Adolescents (CAPSIJ) organized an event for atypical mothers to provide emotional support and community building. Through activities such as conversation circles, music, and dance, the initiative aimed to alleviate the burnout often experienced by caregivers managing the intense daily routines required by children with permanent care needs.
