Brazilian health experts warn of excess hamburger consumption in children

Experts highlight that frequent consumption of industrial‑produced hamburgers during childhood can lead to weight gain, obesity and long‑term metabolic diseases such as type‑2 diabetes, hypertension and abnormal cholesterol levels. Endocrinologist Dr. Natália Brito of IDOMED notes that high calorie, saturated fat and sodium content in fast‑food burgers raise these risks.

To mitigate the impact, specialists advise families to prepare homemade burgers using lean meats, reduced salt, whole‑grain breads and added vegetables, or to choose artisanal options with healthier ingredients. They also suggest involving children in the preparation process to encourage balanced eating habits while still celebrating World Hamburger Day on 28 May.
