Brazilian Health Insurance Sector Faces Call for Parliamentary Inquiry

Health plans in Brazil are under intense scrutiny as reports of coverage denials, procedural delays and increasing judicialization mount. Lawmakers are proposing a Parliamentary Inquiry (CPI) in the Chamber of Deputies to investigate whether insurers' administrative practices comply with legal standards and to uncover any irregularities that may be driving the surge in lawsuits. Deputy Fernando Marangoni (Podemos) has voiced strong support for the CPI, calling for comprehensive document collection, testimony from insurers, specialists, regulators and consumers. The aim is to determine if the sector, which serves millions and handles substantial financial flows, operates fairly and transparently, and to recommend corrective measures if needed.
