Brazilian hospitals expand imaging capacity and launch multi‑country robotic surgery

The Hospital Regional de Cáceres in Mato Grosso state reported a 47.9% rise in imaging procedures between March and May 2026, completing 15,963 exams including MRIs, CT scans, endoscopies and ultrasounds. The surge was driven by renewed MRI services, new technology investments and staff training on advanced imaging techniques, aiming to improve diagnostic speed and access for the regional population.

In Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Hospital Cassems served as the hub for a pioneering tele‑proctored robotic surgery. Simultaneously, three teams performed hernia repairs using robots in Brazil (Campo Grande and Porto Alegre), Panama (Panama City) and Chile (Santiago, where the procedures were broadcast for education). The operation, coordinated from São Paulo, demonstrated real‑time digital mentorship across borders and highlighted Brazil’s growing role in high‑precision medical robotics.

Both initiatives underscore Brazil’s expanding adoption of advanced medical technologies to increase diagnostic capacity and enable complex, collaborative surgeries across nations.
