Brazilian hospitals honor newborns with festive humanization programs

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hospitals in Rio de Janeiro organized special activities for newborns. The Hospital Estadual da Mãe in Mesquita gave families certificates titled “My First World Cup,” flags and placenta‑derived “Tree of Life” prints in the national colours. At Hospital Estadual Ricardo Cruz in Nova Iguaçu, a puppet theatre dressed the dolls in Brazil jerseys to entertain children during hospital stays, a project called “Plantão da Alegria.” The initiatives aim to reduce stress, provide emotional support and strengthen bonds among patients, families and staff.

In Sobral, Ceará, the Neonatology unit of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia staged a June‑themed photo shoot for premature infants, dressing the babies in São João costumes. Parents praised the event for creating warm memories and easing the difficulties of hospitalization, reinforcing the unit’s ongoing policy of humanized care for newborns and their families.
