Brazilian hospitals launch blood donation drives to boost critical supplies

Hospital da Cidade in Maceió organized an internal blood‑donation campaign with the regional Hemopac network, urging its staff to help replenish critically low blood stocks. Staff participant Samyra Albuquerque, a nursing technician, emphasized that “a single donation can save up to four lives,” highlighting the need for blood in accidents, oncology treatments and surgeries.

In Porto Alegre, the Hemocenter of the Hospital de Pronto Socorro opened a special Saturday donation session, accepting all blood types and prioritising O‑positive and O‑negative. The centre reminded donors that “a bag of blood can help up to four people in an emergency,” and listed standard eligibility requirements for volunteers. Both initiatives aim to strengthen state blood reserves for urgent medical care across Brazil.
