Practical tips to eliminate odors from ovens, towels and homes

After cleaning an oven or microwave, dry mint leaves can be placed inside to add a fresh scent without masking underlying problems. The advice stresses thorough cleaning first, then allowing the appliance to dry and ventilate before adding the mint leaves in a breathable container.

A towel that retains a bad smell after washing is usually caused by one of three issues: incomplete drying, excess detergent or fabric softener, or a dirty washing machine. Solutions include fully drying towels in sunlight or a well‑ventilated area, using half the usual amount of detergent and adding a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle, and regularly cleaning the washer’s filter, door seal and drum.

Persistent smoke odor in a house, whether from grilling, cigarettes or nearby fires, can be reduced by increasing ventilation, washing affected fabrics, cleaning surfaces, and maintaining air‑conditioner filters. Aromatic sprays may mask the smell but do not remove it; thorough cleaning and proper airflow are recommended.
