Brazilian independent film festivals launch in Cataguases and Jaraguá do Sul
Brazil is hosting several significant independent film events this season. The IX Sesc Cinema Showcase is launching in Cataguases, Minas Gerais, on September 30 and October 1. The event features 21 films in the National Panorama and 10 youth productions, selected from 1,904 entries across 20 states. The showcase aims to provide visibility to independent works that often lack commercial distribution opportunities.
Simultaneously, the 9th Jaraguá do Sul Film Festival will take place from October 1 to 3 in a hybrid format. The festival's competitive section includes 95 productions, ranging from feature films to music videos, chosen from over 300 entries. The program includes free public activities, roundtables, and debates intended to strengthen regional audiovisual production and expand community access to cinema.
