Brazilian industry increases reliance on traditional banks for credit

According to a survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Brazilian industrial companies have increased their dependence on traditional commercial banks for short- and medium-term financing. Between February and July 2026, 65.3% of industries identified traditional banks as their primary source for credit with terms of up to five years, up from 61% in 2025.

For long-term credit exceeding five years, traditional banks remain the leading source, though their share decreased to 49.5% from 51% the previous year. In this long-term category, development banks emerged as the second most used source at 29.5%, followed by equity capital at 23.1%.

For short- and medium-term needs, equity capital was the second most cited source at 23.6%, with development banks in third place at 18.5%. CNI analyst Maria Virgínia Colusso noted that while concentration is not inherently a problem, companies benefit from having access to diverse funding sources to better meet needs regarding cost, amount, and term.
