Brazilian influence expands in English football

The presence of Brazilian influence in English football continues to grow through both athletic talent and financial investment. In the Premier League, approximately 30 Brazilian players are expected to participate during the 2026/27 season, continuing a trend of integration that began in the early 1990s despite initial cultural and linguistic barriers.

In the lower divisions, Northampton Town has announced the successful acquisition of a stake by the investment group Sports Alpha Capital. The deal has received necessary approvals from the English Football League (EFL) and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). The investment group features significant Brazilian representation, which club president Kelvin Thomas noted is expected to bring new energy and expertise to the club’s future.
