Brazilian initiatives promote bee conservation and sustainable honey production

In Rio Grande do Sul, the Coexistence Project between Agriculture and Apiculture is demonstrating the synergy between soybean cultivation and honey production. During the 2025/26 harvest, 23 participating beekeepers produced approximately 36,000 kilograms of soybean blossom honey, marking a 44% increase from the previous season. To support bee health during the soybean off-season, the initiative includes the planting of 5,000 native tree species to provide floral resources.

In Acre, a separate sustainable development project is integrating meliponiculture with ecotourism through the ‘Trilha do Mel’ (Honey Trail). Led by Gabriel Ribeiro through the NGO Mãos que Ajudam, the initiative utilizes stingless native bees to promote environmental education and forest preservation. The project combines honey production with guided ecological tours across a 150-hectare area near Rio Branco, showcasing the biodiversity of the local biome.
