Brazilian institutions launch Libras and accessibility programs

Educational and cultural institutions in Brazil are launching initiatives to promote Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and accessibility for the deaf community.

In Petrópolis, Cefet/RJ is hosting a watercolor workshop designed to foster intercultural encounters between deaf and hearing individuals. The activity, scheduled for October 7 and 14, uses Libras as the primary medium for interaction and artistic collaboration. The workshop is open to deaf adults aged 18 and older.

In Sergipe, the Pedagogical Institute for Support of Deaf Education (IPAESE) is opening new Libras courses specifically adapted for children aged 7 to 14. Taught by deaf instructor Alana Chagas, these two-month courses will begin in late October, offering classes on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings to provide children with an accessible introduction to the language.
