Brazilian judicial bodies host community marriage ceremonies
Judicial institutions in different Brazilian regions have conducted community marriage ceremonies to facilitate civil unions and expand access to citizenship services.
In Calçoene, Amapá, the Tribunal de Justiça do Amapá (TJAP) held an edition of its ‘Casamento na Comunidade’ program. The event, which took place at the local courthouse, formalized the civil unions of 13 couples. The initiative aims to bring judicial services to interior municipalities, ensuring that geographic distance does not prevent residents from accessing legal rights and formalizing their unions.
In Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais, the Centro Judiciário de Solução de Conflitos e Cidadania (Cejusc) organized a ceremony to convert stable unions into civil marriages. Supported by the Tribunal de Justiça de Minas Gerais (TJMG), the event involved 21 couples. The ceremony was held at the Casa de Música de Ouro Branco with assistance from local social services and the Public Defender's Office, aiming to provide legal dignity and rights to the participating couples.
