Brazilian Judoka Andrey Coelho Wins National Selection, Targets LA 2028

Andrey Coelho, a 20‑year‑old heavyweight judoka from Vitória, won Brazil's National Selection for the South American Games to be held in Santa Fe, Colombia. He defeated Vitor Fagundes in the penalties round and overcame Alexandre Albano II in the final, securing an ippon to clinch the title.

The victory makes Coelho the new leader of Brazil's +100 kg category, a spot previously dominated by three‑time Olympic medalist Rafael "Baby" Silva. Competing for Grêmio Náutico União of Porto Alegre, he now focuses on representing Brazil at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
