Brazilian Lawmaker Luiz Philippe Proposes Anti‑Sharia Bill Citing Israeli Input

Federal deputy Luiz Philippe de Orléans e Bragança (PL‑SP) introduced Bill PL 824/2026, aiming to prohibit the promotion or application of Sharia law in Brazil. He said Israeli observers provided information that motivated the proposal and denied any official involvement by the Israeli government.

In a separate statement, PT deputy Rui Falcão called on President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s administration to sever diplomatic or commercial ties with Israel over its military actions in Gaza. Falcão referenced the vacant Brazilian ambassador post in Tel Aviv and urged a stronger stance against the Netanyahu government while distinguishing the policy from hostility toward the Israeli people.
