Brazilian lawmakers clash over amendment payouts and withdrawn candidacy

State deputy Carlos Avallone (PSDB) said the state government failed to meet an agreement to pay at least 50% of legislative amendments before the election period, noting that “up to now, 50% has not been paid” and arguing there is “no reason for money to be missing, because there is a very large surplus.” He blamed operational problems, including with Banco do Brasil, and said he will present a detailed report to fellow legislators.

Former state deputy Kelps Lima (União) announced he is withdrawing his pre‑candidacy for the federal Chamber, saying the promised support from Union Brasil leaders and the pledged backing of ten mayors never materialised. He criticised Benes Leocádio, João Maia and Robinson Faria for breaking political and financial commitments, summarising the unkept promises as “everything: the sky, the earth and the stars.”
