Brazilian league could expand Libertadores qualification to top nine

The Campeonato Brasileiro could potentially award up to nine slots for the 2027 Copa Libertadores, depending on the outcomes of major continental tournaments. Currently, Brazil is allocated seven slots: five via the Brasileirão and two via the Copa do Brasil.

Additional slots may be granted if Brazilian clubs win the Copa Libertadores or the Copa Sudamericana. For instance, Palmeiras is a finalist in the Libertadores, and Atlético-MG is a finalist in the Sudamericana. If these clubs secure titles, the extra berths are redistributed to the league standings.

Furthermore, the Copa do Brasil champion and runner-up can also influence the distribution. If a finalist is already positioned within the qualification zone, their slots may expand the reach of the league standings. This scenario could shift the current qualification threshold from a G-5 to a G-9, significantly impacting clubs like Botafogo, São Paulo, and Fluminense.
