Brazilian legal institutions conduct field missions to indigenous territories

Legal and federal institutions in Brazil have conducted field operations to support indigenous communities in the Amazon and Mato Grosso regions.

In São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas, the Public Defender's Office (DPAM) provided legal services to residents of seven indigenous communities, including Vila Guia. The initiative, promoted by the Association of Baré Indigenous Communities of the Upper Rio Negro (ACIBARN), addressed 38 cases. Key demands included the rectification of birth certificates for national identity cards, family law matters such as custody and adoption, and the first recorded request for the recognition of a stable union in the Upper Rio Negro region.

Simultaneously, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) conducted a four-day institutional visit to the Enawenê-Nawê Indigenous Territory in Mato Grosso. The mission aimed to listen to community leaders, understand local needs, and provide updates on ongoing judicial and administrative processes. The MPF emphasized the importance of direct field presence to ensure institutional actions respect indigenous cosmology and constitutional guarantees.
