Brazilian literary academies celebrate major anniversaries

The Academia Cearense de Letras (ACL), the oldest continuously operating academy of letters in Brazil, is celebrating its 132nd anniversary. To mark the occasion, the institution launched the ‘Fortaleza 300 Anos’ project, which honors the history and culture of the capital city. The initiative includes a lecture series titled ‘Fortaleza em Perspectiva’, a literary contest, and the ‘Fortaleza Antiga’ photographic exhibition featuring 48 images documenting the urban and social transformations of the city.

Separately, the Academia de Ciências, Letras e Artes do Brasil (ACLAB) celebrated its sixth anniversary in Iracemápolis. The event brought together writers, artists, and international representatives to promote cultural diplomacy. The ceremony included a tribute to the poet Cora Coralina and a moment of silence for Vicência Bretas Tahan, daughter of the renowned writer.
