Brazilian literary events announce upcoming themes and cultural showcases

Major Brazilian literary events have announced upcoming programming and themes. The 72nd Porto Alegre Book Fair is scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 15, 2026, at Praça da Alfândega. Centered on the theme ‘Essência que faz histórias’, the event honors its long-standing relationship with the city's residents. Writer and anthropologist Heloisa Pires Lima has been named the patron for the 2026 edition, recognized for her work in children's literature and Afro-Brazilian culture.

Additionally, the 28th São Paulo International Book Biennial will feature a dedicated 255 m² ‘Espaço Cordel e Repente’ to showcase Northeastern Brazilian popular culture. The space will host performances, workshops, and debates, including a tribute to the legacy of Ariano Suassuna. The program aims to highlight veteran poets and artists from various Northeastern states, bringing together publishers, musicians, and woodcut artists.
