Brazilian literature launches new works on identity and diversity

New literary releases in Brazil are focusing on diverse social narratives and identity. The book ‘Valentes: Os contos dos heróis nada prováveis’, published by Editora Mundo Cristão, offers modern reinterpretations of classic tales for a male adolescent audience. Written by Arlene Diniz, Maria A. Martin, Queren Anee, and Thaís Oliveira, the work uses characters inspired by Aladdin, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame to address themes of masculinity, digital-age insecurities, and self-esteem.

Additionally, the second volume of the ‘Protagonistas’ collection, coordinated by a team including Christiane Pelajo, is set for official release on September 9 at Galeria Magalu in São Paulo. Edited by SerMente Editorial, this volume features stories from over 80 women covering topics such as mental health, entrepreneurship, and overcoming prejudice. The collection includes a diverse range of participants, including LGBTQIA+ and indigenous women, with a preface written by Luiza Helena Trajano.
