Belo Horizonte domestic worker charged with double homicide of elderly couple

The Minas Gerais Public Ministry filed criminal charges against domestic worker Paola Stefany Neto Cairino for the killing of an elderly couple in the São Pedro neighbourhood of Belo Horizonte on 29 June 2026. The victims, Cláudio Atala Inácio and Maria Clotilde Moreira Maciel Atala Inácio, allegedly had a sedative added to their drinks by the accused to facilitate a robbery. When one victim awoke, Cairino responded with dozens of stab wounds, killing both. She then attempted to flee the state but was apprehended in a hotel room in Itabira. Investigators also identified a second suspect—a local restaurant owner—who was charged with fraud for allowing the use of the victims’ bank cards. Cairino faces charges of double latrocínio with aggravating circumstances, fraud of process, and theft by fraud. Prosecutor Mauro Fonseca Ellovitch described the act as pre‑meditated, noting evidence‑tampering measures taken after the killings.
