Brazilian man awarded compensation after medical photos leaked

A court in São Paulo has ordered the Santa Casa Misericórdia de Atibaia to pay R$ 20,000 in moral damages to Gilberto Nogueira de Oliveira. The ruling follows the unauthorized leak of medical photos documenting a severe injury Nogueira sustained.

In December 2023, in Atibaia, Nogueira’s partner, Daiane dos Santos Farias, amputated his penis with a razor after discovering an alleged infidelity. Farias confessed to the crime and was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison. Following her release on parole in November 2025, the couple reconciled.

Nogueira intends to use a portion of the compensation to assist with the acquisition of a penile prosthesis and to fund a new marriage with Farias.
