Brazilian man extradited for illegal migration scheme
A 53-year-old Brazilian man, wanted internationally by Interpol, has been extradited to Brazil for his role in an illegal migration scheme targeting the United States. The individual, a native of São Paulo, had been residing in Mexico, where he coordinated a criminal group responsible for organizing the irregular entry of Brazilians into the U.S. via the Mexican border.
Investigations by the Federal Police revealed that the group charged high fees and provided logistical support, including obtaining travel documents, purchasing airline tickets, and making lodging reservations. The scheme also involved managing finances through third-party bank accounts.
The man was sentenced to 13 years and two months in prison, in addition to a fine, for crimes including the irregular sending of a minor abroad for profit and the promotion of illegal migration. Following his arrival in Brazil, he was transferred to the Ceresp Gameleira prison in Belo Horizonte, where he remains at the disposal of the justice system.
