Brazilian man sentenced for fake Pix fraud targeting food deliveries

A court in São Paulo sentenced a man to six years and eight months in prison for repeatedly using falsified Pix payment confirmations to obtain food from a pastelaria in Limeira. Over seven months he sent fake transfer receipts via WhatsApp, causing the shop to deliver dozens of orders without receiving the estimated R$ 2,000 in payments. The fraud was uncovered when an employee checked the shop’s account balance.

In a separate incident in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, police detained a resident after he presented a counterfeit Pix receipt to pay for a R$ 145 snack order. The bakery owner noticed the payment had not been credited and reported the case. The investigation continues, highlighting a growing trend of fake‑Pix scams against food‑service businesses in Brazil.
