Brazilian maritime and port law experts debate sector modernization

Legal and maritime professionals recently convened for specialized symposiums in Brazil to discuss the modernization and regulation of the port sector.

At the X Maritime and Port Law Congress in Santos, participants debated the modernization of Brazilian port legislation, specifically focusing on Bill 733/2025. Discussions centered on creating a new regulatory framework to ensure legal security and attract private investment. Key topics included the transformation of labor relations in the era of automation (Port 4.0) and the need for Brazil to align its port operations with International Labour Organization guidelines.

In Santa Catarina, the II Catarinense Symposium of Port and Maritime Law was held at the Port of Imbituba. This event brought together representatives from the Brazilian Navy, Federal Police, and the Federal Revenue Service to address port security, regulatory oversight by ANTAQ, and judicial specialization. The symposium emphasized the importance of integrated dialogue between legal, regulatory, and security institutions to strengthen the strategic development of regional port activities.
