Brazilian masonic organizations honor historical role in special session

During a special session held on Friday to honor Mason Day, representatives from various Brazilian masonic organizations gathered to discuss the institution's historical role in the country. The date, August 20, commemorates the 1822 founding of the Grande Oriente do Brasil (GOB) in Rio de Janeiro.

Leaders from the Grande Oriente do Brasil, the Confederação da Maçonaria Simbólica do Brasil (CMSB), and the Confederação Maçônica do Brasil (Comab) participated in the event. Discussions focused on strengthening the relationships between these different branches while respecting their individual autonomy.

Speakers highlighted the historical influence of Freemasonry, noting the role of figures like Joaquim Gonçalves Ledo in advocating for Brazilian independence. Participants also addressed the modern responsibilities of the institution, emphasizing the need to address contemporary social challenges such as inequality, violence, and corruption.
