Brazilian Mayors Under Legal Scrutiny for Criticism and Fund Misuse

The mayor of Tabaporã, Mato Grosso, Carlão Borchardt (PL), had a criminal complaint he filed against former health agent Thaiani Diniz Trindade de Souza dismissed by the state court, which ruled the online remarks were political criticism, not a crime.

In Caçapava, São Paulo, a request to cassate the mandate of mayor Yan Lopes (Podemos) was submitted to the municipal council, alleging the diversion of about R$2.1 million from the municipal transport fund for unrelated expenses. The council will assess the admissibility of the petition.
