Brazilian metrology institutes issue toy safety warnings for Children's Day

With Children's Day approaching, metrology institutes in Brazil, including Ipem/SP and Imetro-SC, are issuing safety warnings to parents regarding toy purchases. Authorities emphasize the necessity of checking for the Inmetro Conformity Assessment Seal on all products, whether domestic or imported.

Key safety recommendations include verifying that toys are appropriate for the child's age group and ensuring packaging includes mandatory information in Portuguese, such as manufacturer details, usage instructions, and age warnings. The Inmetro seal guarantees that products have undergone laboratory testing for factors like impact resistance, toxicity, flammability, and noise limits.

Officials warn against purchasing items from informal commerce, as unregulated products may contain toxic materials, sharp edges, or small parts that pose choking hazards. Consumers are also advised to be cautious with viral social media trends, ensuring such products also meet official certification standards.
