Ederson signs new five‑year deal with Atalanta after failed Manchester United transfer

Brazilian midfielder Éderson was on the verge of joining Manchester United in a deal reported at around £35‑38 million. After a medical examination in England raised concerns about a lingering knee problem, United withdrew from the signing.

Atalanta announced on 17 July 2026 that the player had extended his contract for five years, tying him to the club until June 2031. The new deal was confirmed by the club’s official statement and by multiple news outlets. During his first four seasons with Atalanta, Éderson made 180 appearances, scored 16 goals and provided six assists, contributing to the side’s 2024 Europa League triumph and earning a place in Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have continued to strengthen their midfield with acquisitions such as Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while still searching for a third midfielder after the Éderson collapse.
