Police officer detained after assaulting teenage apprentice in Catalão, Goiás

On 16 July 2026 a military police officer in Catalão, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, entered an auto‑parts shop where a 16‑year‑old apprentice was opening the premises. Security‑camera footage shows the officer pushing the teenager against a wall, striking him repeatedly, and threatening his life, saying, “If you look at me again, I’ll kill you.” The officer also pointed his firearm at the boy. The assault was captured on video and quickly spread on social media, prompting public outcry.

The officer was arrested in flagrante, placed in a military detention facility and the Goiás Military Police announced administrative and disciplinary actions to investigate the incident. A bail of R$ 3,000 was posted, allowing his provisional release pending further proceedings. The case has sparked renewed debate about abuse of authority and the protection of minors working as apprentices in Brazil.
